SPRINGFIELD — State Senator Mike Porfirio (D-Lyons Township) released the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker’s budget address on Wednesday:
“The governor’s budget has laid the foundation for our work this year. I will coordinate with my colleagues to advocate for a responsible, balanced budget that will work for both the residents of my district and those across Illinois.
“My priority will always be supporting the hardworking families of this state. It is hopeful to see support for areas like public safety and childcare in the proposal. I will continue to advocate for a budget that promotes economic development and job creation for residents of my district during budget deliberation.
“The governor’s proposed budget is a reflection of the state’s commitment toward the retention of students in the classroom. Continued investments in K-12 will help shape the future leaders of Illinois.
“I am glad this proposal maintains our obligation to help those who fought for us through years of dedicated service. Veteran suicide prevention is an ongoing effort throughout our state and this proposal shows commitment to supporting these efforts.
“Throughout the next few months, I will continue to listen closely to the residents of the 11th District so I can best represent their interests during budget negotiations.”
