BURBANK — The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal recently issued grants for fire districts to purchase equipment, two of which will head to departments in the 11th Senate District, State Senator Mike Porfirio announced.
“Fire departments protect us every day from threats to our businesses, homes and loved ones,” said Porfirio (D-Lyons Township). “These grants are essential to empowering firefighters to safely execute their job to the best of their ability.”
In the 11th District, $26,000 was awarded to the LaGrange Fire Department and $8,398 to the Berwyn Fire Department. Across Illinois, a total of $4 million will go to 178 fire departments, districts and EMS providers. The OSFM grants aim to help departments purchase tools and equipment like turnout gear and breathing apparatuses that are essential to their work. Porfirio encourages local fire departments to take advantage of future grant opportunites from the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
