BURBANK — State Senator Mike Porfirio announced that over $140,000 in public library grants from the Illinois Secretary of State will be awarded to six libraries in the 11th Senate District.
“Libraries ensure that knowledge and resources remain accessible to all, while also serving as a vital space for communal gatherings,” said Porfirio (D-Lyons Township). “I will always advocate for our public libraries to receive funding that allows them to continue serving the residents of the 11th District.”
Awarded annually, the Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grants support public libraries across Illinois in providing services to nearly 12 million patrons statewide. The funding can be used for books and multilingual materials, online resources, personnel, public programming and capital expenditures.
This year, the Secretary of State awarded $18 million to public libraries across the state, including six libraries in Porfirio’s district:
- Bedford Park Public Library District – $1,161
- Berwyn Public Library – $84,444
- Bridgeview Public Library – $25,115
- Hodgkins Public Library – $2,218
- North Riverside Public Library District – $10,953
- Summit Public Library District – $16,465
